I am Arezzo Sami, a Sydney-based emerging artist. Painting with a minimal colour palette of watercolour and ink, I hope to give my audience a state of tranquility through a connection with nature, to provide an escape from the chaos in our world.
I believe in the power of the visual language, and the relationship between the metaphysical and physical. Images have force, and before there was language there was art. I create art with the intention of shaping beauty, in-turn aiming to shape the world around me until it reflects my vision. There is a direct correlation between will and vision.
My practice originated as an extension of my interest with meditation, the mind and body connection and finding balance. Self-taught, I began painting with ink as a means of finding inner peace, and found that the principles and philosophies of Sumi-e provided a unique form of meditation. Sumi-e is an art form traditionally used by Japanese artists, where black ink is used in various concentrations, to create expressive paintings. I fell in love with its therapeutic and spiritual practice. Sumi-e is deeply rooted in Zen Buddhism, with the early practitioners of the art being Buddhist monks that were trained in the art of simplicity, clarity and concentration. These Zen masters were highly dedicated to the art, which required strict discipline and serious reflection.
I am deeply inspired by the work of Thich Nhat Hanh, a world renowned Zen master, writer, poet, scholar, and peacemaker.
I look forward to hearing from you.
